Funding plaintiffs fighting for civil rights
If you or someone you know has experienced:
- Police misconduct, excessive force, or wrongful death
- Immigration detention abuses, due process violations, or discriminatory enforcement practices
- Unlawful detention, incarceration-related abuse, or prisoners’ rights violations
- Discrimination based on race, gender, disability, religion, age, or other protected status
- Discrimination in health care access or treatment
- Employment or workplace discrimination or retaliation
- Disability discrimination and denial of reasonable accommodations
- Environmental contamination or pollution of your community
- Housing discrimination or wrongful eviction
- Predatory or discriminatory banking, lending, or financial practices
For the time being, we are only able to fund plaintiffs residing in California, New York, and Oregon
We prioritize applications by need, urgency, and equity.
Improve civil rights ecosystems:
Civil rights protections are critical for the welfare of communities, institutional accountability, and healthy democracy. Effective civil rights enforcement depends on lawsuits brought by people whose civil rights have been violated.
Lawsuits are difficult, painful, and often bring prolonged financial strain. People bringing cases face pressures to abandon the suit or settle prematurely. The hidden economic burden of bringing civil rights lawsuits critically undermines access to justice, American civil rights protections, and democracy.
Wind & Rain Nonprofit Fund provides financial support to people pursuing civil rights cases, so financial hardship does not prevent access to justice.
